Taste of Tourism and a Book Drive

Though the temperatures might not agree, summer is on the downhill.  And we've actually put together a post--hurray.  Here are a few items for the week. 

Taste of Tourism Event by Mesa Chamber of Commerce
This free event held this Thursday showcases great businesses in and around Mesa.  Event includes live music, drawings and raffles, and booths sponsored by local businesses.  Learn more about local businesses, or plan your next staycation.  Admission is free and it is this Thursday August 11th from 4:30 - 7:30 PM at the Mesa Convention Center, 201 N. Center St in Mesa.

Loving Through Literacy Book Drive
Looking for an opportunity to give?  From now through the end of August you can donate books to Loving Through Literacy.  The organization is collecting donations for these projects: a new children’s library in Liberia, Africa; Joplin, Missouri libraries and classrooms; and the Community LIbrary on the San Carlos Apache Reservation.  Donations can be dropped off anytime at a book drop located in the parking lot of the LDS church building at 2228 East Brown Road in Mesa. 

Here are the guidelines:
-Books are in good condition, ie., pages and cover intact, no writing inside
-No books requiring batteries
-All types of textbooks and teaching materials accepted
-Encyclopedia sets are are welcome, especially children’s
-No magazines
-CD’s and DVD’s may be donated. No VHS videos or scratched disks.
