Things to do this week in and around Mesa, AZ

Enjoying our meal at Super Farm farmers market.
Sorry our posts have been lacking lately.  But we are back, and will be posting regularly (probably?) from here on out.  Here are your local events for the week:

Second Friday in downtown Mesa
It's 2nd Friday again, this Friday, July 8th from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM on Main Street.   Free event with live music, art walk, and shops open late.  Go here for more info.

Family Fun Day at the ASU Art Museum
This free event is scheduled from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM and features art making projects, performances and a visit from a PBS character. ASU Art Museum is on Mill Ave. & 10th St. in Tempe. Other days the museum is also free and you can see current exhibits such as 'Andy Warhol: Who, What, Where.'  Museum Hours: Tuesday – Saturday 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM and closed Sunday, Monday and holidays.

NASA's Last Space Shuttle Launch
The Arizona Science Center will be open early for this special free event.  NASA's space shuttle program is ending, and the Dorrance Planetarium will be open for a free live viewing of the last launch of the Atlantis at 8:26 AM on Friday, July 8th.  Also at the science center: water rocket activities, liquid nitrogen demonstrations, and fun all about the Solar System. (Event will take place even if launch is delayed).  Launch viewing is free & open to the public.   Demonstrations and activities will take place 10 a.m. - 12 noon and are included in paid general admission to the science center.

Catch a show at Hale Centre Theatre
Current shows include 'Over the River and Through the Woods' (tickets starting at $22) and Pinnochio (children's theater, tickets $10 for children, $14 for adults).  They also offer gift certificates for a great gift idea for children or adults.

Dance Lessons and Social Ballroom Dance at Stars Ballroom in Mesa
$10/person includes lessons, refreshments, and dancing.  Check out their website (scroll down to "Friday Night Dance Under the Starts Social Dance") for more info.

As for us, we are heading to SuperFarm farmers market at Superstition Farms this Thursday night.

Also, there are a couple of Groupon deals for Mesa today: Half off at Splash Designs (a women's clothing boutique in Mesa) and half off (that's $10 each) for a Desert Belle 90-minute sightseeing cruise on Saguaro Lake.
