Events and Blogs

How could we pass up not mentioning these activities going on this weekend?  Asian festival - party at Sweet Cakes....and then some local blogs that you may want to check out.  

- 17th Annual Arizona Asian Festival- in Mesa for the first time this year!  Located at the Mekong Plaza, 66 S. Dobson Road.  This event runs Saturday, 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM and Sunday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM.  Carnival rides, food, HUGE map with activities for the children, arts and crafts, entertainment....a great cultural event for everyone.

- Sweet Cakes Anniversary Party - Come celebrate 1 year of their lounge.  Food eating contests, music, raffles at 19 W. Main St.  6:00 - 10:00 PM.  

- Hazardous Waste Collection - Sometimes it's not all just fun and games in Mesa.  Sometimes we have to get down and dirty and do a little spring cleaning in our homes.  If you have cleaned out your space recently and need to dispose of chemicals, paints, lights, batteries....etc. etc, then head down to the Center Street Facility at 2412 N. Center St. from 8:00 AM - Noon.  Stay in your car and they will handle the rest.  Go here for more information and a complete list of what they do and don't accept.

And then there were some local blogs that made me laugh recently.  Like Myla and her forbidden Mesa fast food picnics.  And then there was Alice and her children's clever finding of vitamin C in order to survive in the 'wilderness' (please make sure to say that with a short i).   And one that is just plain awesome is Kim's blog here:  Arizona-Writer.  She has fantastic write-ups on our Arizona wildlife. Make sure to check out her species a day posts.  I know my family is currently enjoying our new hummingbird feeder and watching a momma dove and her babies' nest in our backyard so I'm sure I'll be reading this site quite often to get some more facts to teach my girls.  Thanks local blogs.  

And, thanks Hubbard for hosting my family's swim lessons.  We just finished up last week.  Even amid 60 degree stormy weather, my girls were nice and warm indoors, learning how to swim.  Leta and Annie at 21 months overcame their fear of the pool and Lucy and Elsa at 4 years love showing me how they can swim just like mermaids.  Check them out and tell them IHM sent you.
