If you have children in the Mesa Public Schools District, you may be interested in a meeting being held to discuss recess. You may have received a letter from your child's school that reads: "The Arizona Legislature has passed a law that requires that all school districts hold a public hearing to review the elementary recess practice and consider adopting a policy that would structure recess time." This means instead of having free playtime, children would have structured activities or sports that they all participate in during recess.
It's late notice, so sorry about that, but if you can make it, here's the info:
The Governing Board will conduct a public hearing on recess for elementary schools.
7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 14
Board Room
549 N. Stapley Drive, Mesa
(On the east side of Stapley Drive, just north of University Drive)
The information is found here. If you can't go to the meeting, you can also go to this same site to leave comments regarding whether recess for children should be structured or unstructured play.
Thanks Velika for sharing!
