Scottsdale ArtWalk
Thurs. Feb. 24, 7-9pm, downtown Scottsdale
Although you can check out Scottsdale’s ArtWalk every Thursday, occasionally they have extra-special events going on – like the annual “Best of Scottsdale ArtWalk” going on this Thursday. Plenty of live music and entertainment, artist demos, gallery show openings, prize giveaways, treats… you get the idea. Admission is free, and so is the parking. Info and more from here.
Vintage Entertainment – “Wild Horse Mesa”
Sat., Feb. 26, 6:45pm, Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix
Nothing says super-cool unusual date night like a silent, 1925 black-and-white flick accompanied with live music on a mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ! Part of the “Silent Saturdays” movie series, the film “Wild Horse Mesa” is a story about a cowboy’s epic fight in trying to capture the king of the wild stallions. Ticket info and more here.
AZ Scottish Gathering & Highland Games
Sat-Sun Feb. 26-27, 9am-4pm, Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix
There’s way too many cool things going on at this 47th annual event, so I’ll just list a dozen to give you an idea of what you’ll find here: field & athletic games (like the hammer throw!), live Celtic music, genealogy tents, a British car display, competitive Highland dancing, magicians, jugglers, bagpipes and didgeridoos, swings and slides, Scottish country dancing, and plenty of Celtic food, gifts, merchandise and more to keep you busy all day long. Parking is free but tickets are not, so go here to buy them or print out their brochure here.
Also there are several other events & shows going on around the valley: the Greater Phoenix Jewish Film Festival; 9-to-5 the Musical at Gammage; The Music Man in Gilbert; and Cirque de la Symphonie (think: circus + Phoenix Symphony = live music with dancing, juggling, and acrobats).
