Christmas Tree Recycling Program
| Residents can take advantage of one of the many options available to recycle their Christmas trees after the holiday season. Collected trees are taken to the Salt River Landfill and chipped into nutrient rich mulch. Benefits from recycling these trees include extending the life of the landfill and reusing natural and limited resources. ***NOTE*** Please remember to remove all nails, tree stands, lights and decorations. These items damage the grinding equipment. Also, wreaths, snow flocked trees and artificial trees cannot be recycled. Small items can be placed in the black barrel and a bulk item pickup can be requested for larger items. |  |

2010/2011 Drop-off Collection Sites
The following 24-hour drop-off sites will be open from Dec. 26 - Jan. 16:
- East Mesa Service Center, 6935 E. Decatur St.
- Solid Waste Management Department, 730 N. Mesa Drive
- Superstition Springs Police/Fire Station, 2430 S. Ellsworth Road
- Mountain View Park, 845 N. Lindsay Road (enter off of Adobe St.)
- Dobson Ranch Park, 2363 S. Dobson Road
Green Waste Barrel Program
Residents participating in the Green Waste Barrel Program may place their trees inside their green barrel. To ensure collection, the tree must fit completely inside the container with the lid properly closed.
Curbside Pick-up*
Curbside pickup of your Christmas tree is available for $19.99. Simply call (480) 644-2221 for more details or to schedule a pickup time. (*Unfortunately due to the collection process, trees collected through this curbside option will not be recycled.)
Salt River Landfill
Christmas trees may be taken directly to the Salt River Landfill, free of charge, with a current Arizona driver's license anytime Monday through Saturday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the month of January. The Salt River Landfill is located at Gilbert Road and the Beeline Highway.
Live Christmas Tree Donation Program
The City of Mesa also accepts the donation of live potted Christmas trees, five feet or taller, for planting at City parks. Residents may drop them off at any Mesa fire station.
Multi-unit Communities
Multi-unit communities such as apartments and condos may request a free one time pick-up of Christmas trees in their complex. If interested, a property management representative should contact Customer Service. [Editor's note: the contact information for customer service can be found here]

Thank you for posting this!! We got a real tree this year for the first time ever and I was wondering what on earth we were going to do with it now.
How did you like having a real tree? We always had one in my house growing up... one of my favorite parts about having a real tree was that our vacuum cleaner made the house smell like pine for a while after we vacuumed up the dry needles. :) I really like that there are several options for recycling the trees too.
Thanks for the great blog! I'd love to see an entry on recycling electronic products (I mean, everyone recycles old cell phones, but recycling that broken monitor or laptop is pretty dang hard, and it's horrible for our landfills to be filled up with these items). Even items such as batteries, paint, light bulbs are supposed to be disposed of properly....any insight you have in this area would be great.
