The Spider

Today we made a spider. It's the first Halloween decoration I've made in quite some time. It is fairly inexpensive, easy and rather cute.

Here's everything you need to know to make your very own spider(s).

1. Gather materials: 4 black pipe cleaners, black paint (I used cheap acrylic paint), brush (I used foam brushes, probably not great for styrofoam balls, but they work), one styrofoam ball, 2 wiggly eyes, black paper clips, black ribbon and adhesive (I used E6000 because it smells good).

2. Paint ball black.

3. Glue on eyes.

4. Cut pipe cleaners in half and stick into ball. Crimp near "feet" end. If you'd like, your spider can be done at this point. You can just let it sit on something. But if you have young kids and you don't want them ripping the legs off, I'd recommend proceeding to the next step.

5. Shape paper clip into a "U" and stick into ball, but not completely just yet.

6. Thread ribbon under portion of paper clip sticking out, press paper clip all the way down and tie the loose ends. I suggest hanging it from a light that's never been dusted. It will feel right at home with all of the real spider webs. :)
Idea from here.

I know this isn't "Mesa-centric" but the Arizona State Fair opens this weekend.
