Hall of Flame Open House

Thanks to Melanie Steyskal, we got the heads up on this one:
Hall of Flame Fire Museum Annual Open House

Saturday, October 25th, 2008
9:00 AM - Noon

Located in the Phoenix Papago Park at 6101 East Van Buren Street (across Van Buren from the Phoenix Zoo)
"Admission is free. Kids can get rides on a fire engine, operate a bucket brigade and manual fire engine, play a booster line from a modern engine on a target, meet Smoky Bear, check out modern fire equipment from Valley cities, see a rescue helicopter, and enjoy many other hands on activities. There is plenty of parking in the Salt River Project Lot and the Ball Park lot."

The Hall of Flame Fire Museum and the National Firefighting Hall of Heroes has "over 90 fully restored pieces of fire apparatus on display, dating from 1725 to 1969. The Hall of Flame sponsors the National Firefighting Hall of Heroes, which honors firefighters who have died in the line of duty or who have been decorated for heroism. The Hall also includes a gallery dedicated to the history of wildland firefighting in the United States."

Images and information from here. This museum is open year round, but Saturday is the day to get in free and to enjoy extra activities.
