Things to Do in the East Valley This Thanksgiving Weekend

Get your holiday season off to a good start by checking out one of these events in or around Mesa, AZ this weekend.

6pm to 10pm, November 25th through January 9th
ZooLights is a blast for kids or adults.  My favorite part will always be the trees lit up and dancing to the holiday music.  Lights begin on Thanksgiving Day so after your feast you can get into the holiday spirit right away.  Tickets range from $8 to $12 (depending on the day of the week and if you already have a zoo membership) and can be purchased in advance at the zoo, online here, or purchased at the gate when you enter ZooLights.  This is also a great gift idea--buy one ticket for every member of the family!  Also, the zoo staff says the crowds thin out as the night wears on so if you want less crowds, get there at 8pm instead of 6pm.

Cruisin' for a Cause
Saturday, Nov 27th, 2pm to 9pm
If you have a hot rod, you can register it for $10 the night of the event.  Proceeds go to the Mesa Police Department Honor Guard and you get a chance to win some great prizes.  If you don't have a hot rod, come down and check out all the vehicles, enter the kids in a hot wheels derby, have some food and enjoy viewing some police vehicles, checking out the vendors and browsing downtown Mesa stores and restaurants.  More info here.

Cindy Standage Concert at Mesa Amphitheatre
Saturday, Nov 27th, 6:45 pm
One of our readers wanted you to know about this concert from Mesa's very own Cindy Standage.  The concert benefits the charity Families Helping Families.  Bonnie says, it will be "a great price and a great show for families. The opening act is the Red Mountain Bluegrass Band (The Heap family from Mesa) and it will be a party."  Ticket prices are $10 and $15.  Check out more info here and buy tickets here.

Ice Skating at Tempe Marketplace
Friday, November 26-Sunday, November 28th, District Plaza, 11am-7pm
The weekend after Thanksgiving, Tempe Marketplace will be offering free ice skating in the District Plaza.  The tree lighting ceremony and ice skating show is Wednesday night at 6:30, and at 7pm and 8pm it's suppose to snow.  From the sky even.
